Web Applications using Claims authentication require an update

Recently we have created a web application using claims authentication and after few days, we have noticed an error in the health analyzer as mentioned below:

You don't need to research on this error as there is an official documentation has already been published by Microsoft. – Thank you MS.

Additional notes:
1.   Download the Windows6.1-KB979917-x64.msu (Win7) update (for Windows Server 2008 R2).
2.   Copy the setup to all your SharePoint servers -> Install it one by one.
3.   Once the install is finished then please restart all the servers.
4.   Once all the servers are up and running
5.   Click 'Reanalyze Now by means of health analyzer list
6.   The error shouldn't be there in the list!

  3. Did you choose the right version? There are different versions for Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 R2!

    If you have downloaded the Win7 version (which should be OK for Server2008R2) and you get the message that "the update is not applicable" just search in the following location on your server for Webengine.dll :

    C:\Windows\winsxs

    after finding this file check if the version is higher than the mentioned version here:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/979917

    if you are having a higher version than 2.0.50727.5007 that's the reason why you do get that error. It means you do not need to apply the update since it has been already applied.

  4. Hi Yes this Version is higher than the specified by you ... But how should we resolve this error ? I am not using R2 ... Its a normal 2k8 64 Bit Enterprise with SP2

    1. can you please provide bit more details on failing servers? How many servers are showing this message and what's their current version?

    2. Hi Mike Sharepoint is at SP2 level and Windows is 2008 with SP2 again. There are 2 servers in the farm only WFE is showing thhis error message.
