"Setup is missing prerequisites" error message when you try to install the PowerPivot add-in for Excel in FAST Search Server 2010 for SharePoint

Problem Description:
Consider the following scenario:
• You have a server that has the Business Intelligence Indexing Connector feature installed in Microsoft FAST Search Server 2010 for SharePoint. 
• You have to crawl Microsoft Excel 2010 files that contain PowerPivot content. 
• You install the PowerPivot add-in for Excel on the server. 
In this scenario, the PowerPivot add-in for Excel does not install.

Additionally, you receive the following error message:
Setup is missing prerequisites:
This add-in requires Excel 2010. If you have 32-bit Excel, you must install the 32-bit version of the add-in. If not, you must install the 64-bit version. This add-in requires that the Office Shared Features component of Microsoft Office 2010 is installed.

Probable cause:
This issue occurs because Excel 2010 is not installed on the server.
Resolution:
To resolve this issue, install Excel 2010 on the server.

Note: When installing PowerPivot add-in for Excel, you don’t look at whether you have a 32-bit machine or a 64-bit machine; instead, you should look at whether you have 32-bit Excel or 64-bit Excel. In other words, if you are using the 32-bit version of Excel 2010, you must use the 32-bit version of PowerPivot and if you are using the 64-bit version of Excel 2010, you must use the 64-bit version of PowerPivot.

whenever he clicks on excel spreadsheets, its says unable to process request


Problem Description:
Receive the following error when an Excel Document is attempted to be opened in Internet Explorer and would like to have the users be prompted to open Excel Documents in Excel instead of in IE, by default.

Error Message:
Unable to process the request
Wait a few minutes and try performing this operation again.

Probable cause:
Library settings are configured to open documents in IE by default and the Desktop Experience is not installed on the server.

Resolutions:

Solution#1:
Modified the library advanced settings to open the Excel Document in Excel by default:
1)   Opened the library selected Library Settings from the Library Ribbon
2)   Selected Advanced Settings
3)   Selected ‘Open in the client application’ in the Opening Documents in the Browser section
4)   Clicked OK
5)   Verified that the Excel Documents were opening in Excel

Solution#2:
Make sure the excel services are running

Solution#3:
Make sure that web application has Excel service connection. How 2 check this:
·         Central Administration
·         Manage web applications
·         Service connections
·         Make sure the option of ‘Excel service application’ is marked

Solution#4:
Make sure that your server has this hotfix installed: KB976462

Solution#5:
On document library level – you can go to Library Settings -> Advanced settings and change “Default open behavior for browser-enabled documents” to “Open in the client application”

Solution#6:
Activate this feature ‘Open Documents in Client Applications by Default
How to activate this:
§  Open the SharePoint site
§  Site actions
§  Site settings
§  Site collection administration
§  Site collection features
§  Run IISRESET command

Error message when you open a Web page that uses Excel Web Access in SharePoint Server 2007: "You do not have permissions to open this file on Excel Services" or "Excel cannot load the workbook that you requested"


An Excel Access Web Part is a SharePoint technology that displays an Excel workbook from a document library. You can connect an Excel Web Access Web Part to any workbook in a SharePoint document library, and then use it on a dashboard or other SharePoint page. For example, you might want to display selected elements of a quarterly report on a dashboard.

Problem description:
You open a Web page that uses Excel Web Access in Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007. If Excel Web Access uses a file from a UNC path that is in a trusted location, the file does not open.

Additionally, you receive one of the following error messages:
You do not have permissions to open this file on Excel Services. Make sure that the file is in an Excel Services trusted location and that you have access to the file.
Excel Services cannot load the workbook that you requested.

Workarounds:
To work around this issue, use one or more of the following methods, as appropriate for your situation:
• Make sure that the location type for the trusted location is in UNC format. 
• Make sure that the file access method on the server is set to process account. 
• Make sure that the account that is running Excel Services has permissions to access the UNC share.

The Excel Services Application for SharePoint 2010 does not load or display workbooks

Problem Description:
The Excel Services application for Microsoft SharePoint 2010 does not load or display workbooks.

This problem may occur in one of the following scenarios:
• In a custom-security configuration. 
• When you add a new Web application to a farm. 
• When you do not perform a default installation. 

Probable causes:
This problem occurs because the service account that runs the Excel Services Application does not have access to the SharePoint content databases.

Resolution:
To resolve this problem, the administrator must grant access to the account to run the Excel Services Application. To do this, follow these steps for each Web application:
·         Click Start
·         click All Programs . 
·         Click Microsoft SharePoint 2010 Products
·         Click SharePoint 2010 Management Shell

At the Windows PowerShell command prompt (PS C:\>), type the following command, and then press ENTER:

PS> $w = Get-SPWebApplication –Identity < URL of the Web application >

PS> $w.GrantAccessToProcessIdentity("< insert service account >")

Note: The placeholder <insert service account> represents the service account that you use to run the Excel Services Application. 
After you do this, the service account is granted db_owner access to the SharePoint content databases.

The file is corrupt cannot be opened


Excel 2010 is spreadsheet software in the new Microsoft 2010 Office Suite. Excel allows you to store manipulate and analyze data in organized workbooks for home and business tasks. New innovations in Excel 2010 include the enhanced data viewing features of Sparklines and Slicers.

Problem Description:
After you install Microsoft Office 2010, you cannot open .xls files, and you may receive the following message:

The file is corrupt cannot be opened.

In addition, you may experience a problem in which any Microsoft Office programs, such as Word or Outlook, crashes when you open .xls files. 

Resolution:
1)   Follow these steps:
2)   Click Start
3)   Control Panel
4)   Programs
5)   Uninstall a program under Programs and Features. 
6)   Select Microsoft Office. 
7)   Click Change, and then wait while the change and repair is carried out.  
8)   Exit after the process is completed. 
9)   Double-click the Excel file that you want to open or open the file through an HTML link as you could by using previous versions of the program.
